Get Involved!
The OCP Update is the community’s best opportunity to visualize possibilities, and to create a shared vision that endures long into the future. This planning process is a “fresh start”. It can unite the community, build identity and make the shift to being a sustainable place.
Community Engagement
Each phase of the OCP Update process includes both structured and non-structured community engagement activities. These include community open houses, workshops, forums, and community surveys. Your OCP Update Steering Committee is working hard to ensure that all members of the community are kept informed and included in the process. We’ll keep you updated with regular newsletters, newspaper ads, and website updates.

Continuing Invitation to Submit Input & Advice to the OCP Update Steering Committee
Throughout the OCP Update process, citizens, groups and businesses have continued to be invited to submit ideas, issues of concern and advice to the OCP Update Steering Committee in varied ways. We received many letters and submissions by the deadline of March 19, 2010.
As we continue to work on the DRAFT 2010 OCP Update, we invite you again to provide your input and advice. Please send written feedback via mail to the OCP Update Steering Committee, c/o Bowen Island Municipal Hall (981 Artisan Lane, V0N 1G0), or email to cgrundy@bimbc.ca, or drop-off your written submission to the Municipal Hall directly.
Greenhouse Gas / Climate Wise Island Community Workshop
In conjunction with Municipal Council, the OCP Update Steering Committee hosted a workshop on January 21 2010 on Greenhouse Gas emissions in relation to the OCP Update. Islands Trust staff and consultants led the workshop, which explored the issue of GHGs, the role of OCPs in addressing requirements of Bill 27 (Bill 27 requires municipalities to incorporate GHG reduction statements into their OCPs), and issues related especially to the Islands Trust communities.

IDEAS Forum
The OCP Update Steering Committee hosted an IDEAS Forum on October 22nd. The purpose of the forum was to generate discussion among Bowen's volunteer groups, organizations and community members about the future of Bowen Island. Volunteer groups serving the island-wide community were invited to submit a discussion paper to the Steering Committee outlining their needs, ambitions, and thoughts about Bowen’s future. 21 submissions were received and approximately 90 people attended the event. People worked together in small groups to identify key ideas about the future of Bowen and then reported out to all participants. Participants were then asked to identify the ideas they believed to be most significant. Results, including the key ideas emerging from the forum, will be posted soon.
